The sword is a katana that is samurai-mounted. The blade and the mountings are in MINT condition. The sword has a blade length of 29 inches (74cm) and is made from L6 steel.
It features a well-implemented bo-hi groove down both sides. The hamon is a true water-quenched notare that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. The blade is modern and was made for the practice of Iai and tameshigiri , or cutting.The tang shows well-implemented filemarks and is signed by the swordsmith, Motohara. The blade comes in complete Samurai mountings. They are in MINT condition. The tsuka is wrapped in a high quality black leather. The tsuba is iron sukashi.
There are two seppa with the tsuba. The saya (scabbard) is lacquered black and in immaculate MINT condition, retaining 99-100% original finish. The blade is in MINT condition. There are no nicks along the edge.There is no rust and just a few, if any, scratches along its length. There do not appear to be any major flaws like hagire. Based on this design, this sword was made to cut and cut well. I think this sword would be an excellent addition for a collector of Japanese swords, a practitioner of Iai, or especially a practitioner of tameshigiri.
